Jeanne Harris Weaver

Pomegranates

oil on canvas, 15.5 X 20.25 in.

Artist Statement: From my published book, Losing Todd: A Mother’s Journey:
“…There they sat in the produce section… the sight of them made me nauseous….That Todd had been killed in a pomegranate orchard stuck in my mind early on…

(later) I was reading “The Song of Songs” in the Old Testament. I recalled how the fruit was considered to be the eternal fruit, the fruit of righteousness, symbolic of the Resurrection… I knew that during the upcoming holiday season I would paint the ruby fruit. By doing so, I would rid myself of the horrific vision embedded in my mind and replace that vision with one of God’s Eternal Love.
