I spent years aiming to make photographs that reproduce reality as literally as possible. Now I want to risk moving beyond the literal to explore that deeper reality that brings the world to life. This image began with a picture of a stand of tall trees on a foggy fall morning. Everything else was added or reworked to suggest an attitude of wonder at the bright and sometimes almost unbearable light that seeks us out out and bids us shine.

Bio: Catherine D. Kerr is a photographer, writer, preacher, priest, wife, mother, grandmother, and music lover. Her work is frequently included in exhibitions near her home in Bucks County, PA, including most recently the 2022 Phillips Mill Photography Exhibition and the 2022 Diocesan Invitational Art Exhibit at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral. She has led quiet days on contemplative photography and is a firm believer that all art is spiritual practice. She approaches photography as a discipline of receptivity to God’s light and God’s grace manifest in this world.
