Mary Jane Miller

How Many Conversations

Artist Statement: How I have come to this work? Lurking in the iconography tradition, its history, and ancient message, my heart became enchanted with an awe of the unknown. Energy and spirit are ever present in creation, the challenge is in how to depict it. I can imagine visual fragments of the ancient Byzantine images that have floated in the world for centuries. Mother Earth is calling out to humanity. Her cry is for us to repent and be grateful for her abundance. The images were created with photoshop, and my paintings are superimposed onto photographs of places I have been. The image becomes an example of a dimension I can feel in my interior.
