Artist Statement: The liturgical calendar is a spiritual labyrinth that grounds me, challenges me, and leads me into territories where, if not for these seasons, I would probably not have courage to go.

Titled “Journey,” this banner collection employs light, color, and shadow, in conjunction with a fixed location, to image my pathway into the liturgical seasons. The journey never fails to help reacquaint me with what my spirit seeks -- to trust in God’s promises (Advent), to maintain a place of welcome for the Word-Made-Flesh (Christmas), to follow God’s direction in venturing into the unknown (Epiphany), to be surrounded by the breadth and depth of God’s unfailing love (Lent), to live into the newness made possible by Jesus’ victory over sin, death, and the power of evil (Easter), to offer myself to the inpouring of God’s Spirit (Pentecost), and to grow in faith of God and in service to neighbor and creation (After Pentecost). This is a journey that inspires my creativity and opens my life to opportunities and possibilities that are greater than anything I could independently imagine or envision.

Bio: I create digital and mixed-media art expressive of spiritual themes, sacred texts, and theological reflections. I’ve completed more than 80 liturgical-art commissions that reside in agency, parish, and private collections. My work has appeared in several hundred juried solo, group, and invitational exhibitions in Europe, Asia and North America. I’m also a published author of books, magazine articles, and journal abstracts on subjects related to art, spirituality, and worship, as well as a frequent presenter at conferences and other events.
