Cypress Cathedral |
Artist Statement: If you look closely at this painting you will see shapes reminiscent of a feminine form, a serpent, and the Holy Ghost. While the light filtering through the towering cypress trees of Caddo Lake lends a cathedral-like feeling, the shapes formed by the moss draped trees in this work may also remind us of the original sin, which led to pain and suffering of all humankind. Through our confirmation however, we are members of a living church, one that offers forgiveness for our human faults and the grace of God to all who believe. Bio: Kelly Best Bourgeois grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas where she developed a profound love of nature from the ever-changing scenery and wildlife along the Texas Gulf Coast. She began painting with oils under the guidance of mentor Dick Turner at the age of 12, and later moved to Austin, TX where she earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from Plan II at the University of Texas. |
