Matins Cool sunrise on the Blue Ridge Parkway Photograph |
Artist Statement: As an artist, poet, and priest, I attempt to capture the beauty of God’s creation wherever I am, and in doing that, I also try to image the Psalms in painting, photography, and poetry. Blessed to live in beautiful places on Cape Cod and in the mountains of Western North Carolina, I went to an overlook near Mount Mitchell on the Blue Ridge Parkway one recent Labor Day to watch the sunrise, share breakfast with friends, and look for migrating songbirds. I was blessed by beautiful views of dawn’s first light, lovely songbirds, and blessed fellowship with friends. Psalm 19 opens with these words: “Wherever I am, wherever I go, I can sense something of the power of God. The grandeur of the mountains, the vastness of the oceans, the breathtaking wonder of interstellar space; all this proclaims the glory and majesty of God” (paraphrase of the Psalms from the 1970’s, Psalms Now, Leslie F. Brandt with art by Corita Kent, Concordia, 1973, p. 31). Bio: The Rev. Judith A.
