Stability and Walls Breaking

Stability and Walls Breaking

Artist Statement: As I made this painting I was contemplating the paradox of grid patterns as both stability and as walls of imprisonment – and the darkness and fears that come as walls are breaking. The painting emerged as the light of the moving Spirit overcoming the darkness of broken stability – in both inner and outer space. I was called to make this painting when confronted both with my internal walls, and my concern for family members in foster care, jails, and prisons.

Bio: At the heart of my life has been the desire to heal and free myself and others. My two earlier careers as human relations consultant and artist-blacksmith, have been crucial preparation for my current work as a painter, using color and symbols to make paintings that evoke courage and hope. I’m dedicated to the long task of learning to make paintings that gaze back at the viewer, with God’s healing love.
