Embrace

Artist Statement: This painting was inspired by a single incident of an elderly neighbor giving me a hug after we talked about raking leaves, dogs, pumpkins, lamb’s ear, hostas, and ferns. It was one of those types of hugs a grandparent gives to a grandchild, a returning veteran gives to their family, a college freshman gets from the departing parent, and God gives the lost sheep. It’s the kind of hug that radiates love and acceptance no matter the shadows, bruises, warts, voids, sins or times.

Bio: Rara lives near the Smoky Mountains with her dear husband Tom of over 40 years. She is a folk artist who is inspired by her family, friends, church community, all the children in her life, and all the furry animals. She is a mother, grandmother, pediatric physical therapist, spiritual director, retreat leader, children’s author and illustrator.
