| Light Beyond Darkness |
Artist Statement: The call to paint a backlit dark heart came while driving on a busy expressway, on the way from my quiet woods into a loud city full of contrasts and conflicts. Back in my contemplative studio, the painting seemed to paint itself – including the mix of gold and deep crimson moving in the deep night’s heart. Bio: At the heart of my life has been the desire to heal and free myself and others. My two earlier careers as human relations consultant and artist-blacksmith, have been crucial preparation for my current work as a painter, using color and symbols to make paintings that evoke courage and hope. I’m dedicated to the long task of learning to make paintings that gaze back at the viewer, with God’s healing love. |
