Joel Haas
“I work from the premise that angels
are messages, not merely messengers from God. Thus, the angel that appears to
the shepherds is the good news itself that addresses them and all people, then,
now, and in the future. My angels address, you, the viewer, with the news. My
angels are not merely standing, costumed figures in an old illustrated tableau.
My object is not to illustrate an “old Bible story,” but rather a continuing
story of today about “us,” not “them.” |

Born NC 1951. Married. Lives and
works in Raleigh, NC. Joel has been a full-time, free lance sculptor since 1981.
He works in welded and forged steel as well as in figurative casting; in
addition, Joel does a lot of digital manipulation of photos of the sculptures
