The “Treasurefield Triptych"
is based on Jesus' parable of the treasure in the field.
I painted it after my family and I had moved from Austin
to the small town of Elgin about 5 years ago. We bought
7 acres of land which is mostly a big hay field.
The middle section is based on the house we left and the
garage sale we had before departing. The left and right
section are the field we purchased (although you can't
see the city in the background from our house) painted
in different seasons of the year: the left is autumn,
the middle is winter and the right is spring. All around
the border of the left section are items one might find
in a field with a metal detector symbols of things we
might idolize. Around the border on the right are
various wildflowers that bloom in our field as well as
diverse examples of bread and wine which the man is also
holding up: the treasure, the Eucharist.
