Crossing the Red Sea

Acrylic on canvas

Artist Statement: A journey across the Red Sea is a journey back from exile. What aspects of myself have I or my circumstances forced into exile and need to be brought home? What aspects of myself and the society in which I live need to change? In this painting there are hints of dry land in the midst of dark, turbulent waters. The societal and political upheavals we’re dealing with at this time certainly qualify as dark and turbulent. There are more than a few power hungry pharaohs in our midst. But God is also in our midst, so in faith, I keep moving toward the glimmer of light on the horizon. A Red Sea crossing leads to healing and wholeness for both individuals and their communities. My personal crossings have never been easy, but the only way out is through, and I have always arrived safely on the other side better for the journey.
