Jan Ramsey

Incarnation and Dust

(with a detail image)
Painting

Artist Statement: 1 Samuel 2:8 "He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes and inherit the seat of honor."

Little do we know how our actions in the world affect divine history, divine story. Which of the migrating families in the desert are the ancestors of the woman who speaks to Jesus at the well, or is the great, great grandfather of Nicodemus or of Mary, Martha and Lazarus? Or of the unnamed man who was lowered through the roof to be healed. The story of Jesus is richer because of these people who became the honored guests of divine story.

Bio: Jan Ramsey is a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Arcata, Northern California. Received BFA, Cardinal Stritch University, WI and MA from Humboldt State University, CA. She paints and uses any flat or sculptural medium necessary to tell visual stories and helps others to tell their stories. She has worked in schools, hospice centers, churches, and retreat centers to help folks through transitions. Working-travel-sketchbooks full of watercolor and ink paintings, done on location, are her personal treasures. She has walked many pilgrim trails through Europe for 15 years.
