One Service,
Three Days – In preparation for
Holy Week in 2006, as the staff of St. Paul’s prepared for
the services, each of us grew a deeper understanding of the Great
Three Days: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. It
had never occurred to me that these services were actually one service
over a period of three days. There is no dismissal on Maundy
Thursday nor on Good Friday. In addition, we tried to incorporate
services for all members of our congregation from small children
to adults. In the late afternoon of Good Friday, a special
service for children was held. The children gathered around
the Altar to hear a Godly Play story about Holy Week leading up to
but not including the Resurrection.
The photo of the footwashing on Maundy Thursday is blurred so one
cannot really distinguish where the foot ends and the hands begin.
