Christ in Glory Icon Processional Cross

The Christ in Glory icon processional cross is a contemporary variation on traditional iconography. Christ in glory is surrounded by seraphim and the Evangelists' symbols appear in the four arms of the cross. However, as the cross was commissioned by the predominately black congregation of the Episcopal Church of the Intercession, Harlem, New York, Christ is portrayed as black and his robe is bordered in African Ghanian kente cloth. The Gospel Book is blank as a sign of the ongoing living out of the eternal Gospel.
