By definition, painting an icon is an encounter with
the Spirit of God, often as manifested in the lives
of his saints. This is necessarily an experience of
growth.
The icon of Hilda of Whitby is an encounter with a woman
of unity and wisdom, who lived in a time of turmoil
in the church. (Wisdom of God).
