Flight through the Desert

by Lynn T. Runnells
(Oil on wood, 2003, 8" x 12")
St. John’s Church – Gloucester, Mass

My work is simply about my belief that God's world is everywhere. God is found in the Pecos Wilderness in New Mexico, the dunes of Holland, and in the fishing town of Gloucester, Massachusetts. God is here Now.

Choosing to paint with oils on wood, using backgrounds from ordinary, yet sacred life, is part of my belief in the accessibility of God. My icons are rooted in traditional religious images, either paintings or early Christian icons. They are images that I have prayed with. They have moved me in my own journey, and thus, my intimate icons carry my passion and love.

The six icons I have chosen would fit into the sub-themes of the Convention: Gracious Spirit, Spiritual Sight, For She is the Breadth of the Power of God, Friendship with God, Love Astounding, and God's Work.
