All three photographs are inspired by
the blood red lighting of the Cathedral
Church of St. John the Divine, NYC, for
Pentecost, 2001. They are warm and not
terrifying; bathed in a light that
promises redemptive fire, not the fires
of Hell; rather the cleansing fire that
purifies base metal and turns it into
something beautiful. I was inspired to
catch the Chinese Ribbons that the Omega
Dancers were waving as a sign of
seasonal renewal and joy. The Heart
shape was only noticed after I
downloaded them to my computer and
looked at them on screen. I could not
get that shot again if I tried.
Hal Weiner is a freelance digital
photojournalist under non-exclusive

Congregation of St. Saviour, the
resident congregation that serves the
mission of the Cathedral and the Dean.
