Artist Statement: My combined monoprint and etching reflects the face of Christ that is portrayed mostly on Good Fridays from His Passion. His closed eyes reflect the bereavement of every human slated for state execution. The optical dots that swirl across the plane represent the atomic structure within suffering; the work is part of a series devoted to the French philosopher, paleontologist and Jesuit priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. His brave scientific writings on evolution earned him burial in an unmarked grave by the Roman church. The etching plate that I use in my "Face of Christ" series represents universal human suffering from the murdered Cathars over 1000 years ago to the mass murders today perpetrated by gun carriers.
