Artist Statement: Jesus Christ Apple Tree is an early hymn that illustrates how Christ feeds and nourishes His flock, all of humanity. My interpretation of Christ is ever-youthful, not bearded or aged or reclusive.
Christ is forward, pioneering and ever young. If he looks like a metaphysical Johnny Appleseed, a bag of seeds on his hip, that is not a mistake. Johnny Appleseed moved forward in advance of families as a pioneer, providing a source of constant and renewing nourishment, sustenance. I love the notion that Christ came to this world as Jesus to teach humanity NOT how to be spiritual but how to be fully human.
Hence "Jesus My Apple Tree" is both personal and universal.
