Glimpse through the window next to the altar. It is filled
with rhododendron, my burning bush, leading us to new growth.
When this physical life is ended, one is no longer teased
by merely looking through the window…step carefully
at first, then feet are no longer needed to pass through.
The design on the chalice, which I made from clay, is an
abstraction of the names of God. Our taste of Eternity is
in the blood of Christ. Are the gold leaf and vermilion
dots coming from the chalice or from the window? Yearning
to be closer to the holy, the butterfly is tethered. A moment
of me is reflected in the open casement. Ladybugs, geckos
and parishioners share the Church of the Transfiguration,
Bat Cave, North Carolina-- God’s family all.
The Third Song of Isaiah adorns the edge of the frame. |
