In
2002, while praying in church before the Wednesday
evening service, I received the image of a cross. It was
so sudden, so strong, so powerful, and so vivid in color
that it blocked out all other thought or sound. That
image haunted me all night long, and since I work at
night, I had plenty of time to think about it. By the
time I got home from work I knew that I had to draw this
image.
I have never had any formal art training, but I knew I
had to put this image on paper. I had done some simple
drawings using a computer, but nothing complicated, and
this image was going to require some techniques I had
never used before. I did not know how I was going to
recreate the cross I had seen, but I began anyway.
Amazingly every shape needed, every degree of shading,
every layer (I had never worked with layers before)
seemed to come to me as if I had been doing it for
years. That cross, a light blue cross with flower wreath
and dove on a background of flame, was only the first of
many. Over the next three years I received a total of
twenty-four images.

The
images are intentionally not titled. My intention is
that the viewer should find in each image what it means
in his or her own life and not be influenced by a name.
The only element that is not open to interpretation is
the drop of blood. This represents our sorrow for the
death of Christ and the deep gratitude that we feel for
His sacrifice.
Each image was given to me during meditation. I hope
that you will find these images inspiring, meditative,
and perhaps, peaceful.
