The Gathering

A room is ready,
a table set
with fragrant foods I
passed hand to hand.
One sly remark, the laughter
breaks among us;
another bond, another meal,
another time with Him.
He speaks.
And stranger words
we never heard.
They fall on us like thunder,
ricochet between us,
"body-bread-eat of me—
blood poured out—
drink of me:'
And piecing it together, we know
our lives hang on these words. |
