ECVA seeks to support local visual artists by raising awareness of these artists to their faith communities. ECVA serves its members artists by proclaiming the visual arts as a vital part of the worship of God. In the coming 12 months ECVA

plans to initiate a notification program that will inform parishes, deaneries and dioceses about the artists in their area who are exhibiting with ECVA. Brie Dodson, ECVA Director of Communications, will oversee this and other communications and networking initiatives.

Through exhibition, outreach and education, ECVA assists church communities in visual arts integration in worship space and liturgy. The artists of ECVA share with many clergy the certain knowledge that personal faith can benefit, both in development and in sustenance, from contact with the visual arts. Sociologist Robert Wuthnow researches the relationship between the active life of the artist and its implications on a vibrant life of faith. He says, The way of the artist involves doing rather than only believing in the possibility of doing. It requires training, discipline, and a considerable investment of oneself. Spiritual formation and creativity are natural companions.
