Light

Artist Statement: Light is an essential element of God’s creation and of Jesus the Christ. On the first day of creation, “God said ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good…” (Genesis 1:3-4) And in the early chapters of John’s Gospel, Jesus is referred to, and refers to himself as, the Light. “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” (John, 9:5). As a visual artist, light is a critical element in carrying out my artistic vision. In this image, taken at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island, WA., I wanted to connect the enclosed sanctuary with the Light of the world and the Light of Christ in an inspiring manner to emphasize the power of the Creator and the Creator’s ability to pierce walls, and pierce our hearts and minds.
