The
Epiphany Chasuble
Epiphany
means "to show" or "manifest". The small medallion
in the center front of the chasuble uses a cross and vine motif adapted
from an ancient Coptic tunic to illustrate that which was revealed in
Jesus Christ. The cross form is know as a crosslet (four Latin crosses
with their lower arms joined). This cross is suggestive of the spread
of the Christian faith to the four corners of the earth and therefore
supports the missionary emphasis of the Epiphany season. The cross crosslet
reaches beyond the center medallion to subtly occupy the entire front
of the chasuble. The simple vine is a reminder of Jesus' description on
the new relationship between God and humankind in the New Covenant.
