Artist Statement/Bio: Claudia Smith's passion for creating art can never be silenced. She lives her passion, whether it be with her artist’s brush or writer’s pen. It’s been a constant source of joy from the time she could clutch a crayon.
Upon graduation from Michigan State University with a degree in Art Education, she taught for several years. Eventually, she ventured into the commercial world of interior design and freelance work. She worked in newspaper illustration and cartooning, where publishers found her creations the perfect match to accompany her writing and that of staff writers.
Never losing her love for creating fine art, her oil paintings have been featured in galleries, private collections and municipal buildings.
Her current mixed-media work is centered on her artistry of incorporating natural “found materials” into her art pieces. She loves the dimensional effect offered by their many forms and endless possibilities. Each piece reflects the reverence and respect that she craves to capture. The love and drive of these feelings often spill over into an accompanying poem.

You are a kaleidoscope of color,
A myriad of designs
Perfect in composition, rhythm and originality,
A sculptor's dream,
An architect’s delight.
Your wind-whispered words breathe sweetly
Upon the poet’s ear,
Sing melodic to the musician’s heart,
Stir passion in the painter’s breast.
You are inspiration to road-workers,
Whose shoes smell of tar;
To mechanics,
With grease-filled fingernails,
Motivation for the child
With crayons,
Clutched in eager, chubby fingers.
