The Beauty of Decay Photograph taken by a Samsung SM-N5OU phone camera |
Artist Statement: The beauty of this decaying log spoke to me during a spring hike at Argyle Lake State Park in western Illinois. The decayed wood formed a complex pattern, recalling to me the idle parts of our lives during the complexity of the new world of the pandemic. The log surprised me with its organic, ordered, yet random, nature, much like my own reactions to being quarantined. Bio: Joyce Beaulieu lives in western Illinois on her family farm. Ordained since 2007, she now serves two nearby parishes as a supply priest as well as pursuing outdoor sports, writing, photography, and tending her pollinator prairie during her retirement. Her photographs have appeared in ECVA exhibits, the Women at Prayer project, the Episcopal Liturgical Calendar, and several issues of Presence Magazine. |
