Every spring, Gloucester County, Virginia, celebrates
the annual blooming of daffodils with a festival. For
this festival, artists are invited to submit original
paintings of daffodils. The winning entry is made into
a poster commemorating the festival for the year. My painting,
“Choir Practice”, was selected to be the poster
art for 2003 and was inspired by the beautiful daffodils
that bloom in front of Abingdon Episcopal Church in Gloucester,
Virginia. They give me the impression of members of God’s
choir, singing His praises, lifting their heads up to
the sky. The theme of the 2006 General Convention, “Grow
in all ways into Christ”, is captured in the painting
of the church with growing, blooming life surrounding
it.
