Micah 4:3 Isaiah 2:4
Covenantal peoples
in Abrahamic faith have our source in an ancestral home of Abraham, Sarah,
and Hagar. Nations issuing from Abraham’s tent where Ishmael emerges as a
first other, split the seam of this household, forced into
different directions. From a seminal moment the lingua franca of
nations becomes difference instead of dialogue. And fifty-plus centuries
later we’re newly exploring—traveling back on biblical roads with
Abraham, Sarah and Hagar, Isaac and Ishmael—to find a return to common
ground.
A new tabernacle, one of restorative justice and
reclamation gives us into shared embrace. More than merely tolerating other,
we live authentically experiencing Abraham’s hospitality, love for God and
caring for others–recognizing and reconciling angels we’ve
entertained unaware. Only here can we be spiritually poised in God’s
heart, genuinely able to say, Nation will not lift up sword against
nation. Neither will they again learn war.
