Artist Statement: I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. John 12:46
A candle in the Christian tradition represents Jesus as our light in the darkness.
There are many stories and references of in the Bible revolving around Jesus and light.
A small group of women were led to join me in my studio. We lit a candle and said a prayer to welcome the Holy Spirit. Meditative taize music was playing softly. It’s in this contemplative atmosphere that In His Light was completed. Each brush stroke was applied as a prayer and to honor God the royal colors red, blue, purple, and gold were chosen. As all of these elements combined together this depiction of the light of Jesus came to life.
Our first goal in creating this art work was to spend focused time with God and to share in His creativity. Another goal equally important is for viewers of the art to find a quiet refuge and to experience the same spirit of peace and joy in which it was created. - Catherine Gibbs
