Artist Statement: Sometimes suffering manifests itself in depression. Hopelessness and insomnia become the rule, linked with confusion and loss of control. Individuals lose their way. My oil painting with its accompanying poem symbolizes these entanglements, and the awakening of the soul by reaching out in prayer with its resultant healing. Artists portray suffering and healing visually and through written words, often merging them into a powerful combination. This is what I've attempted with by oil painting and accompanying poem.
DREAM POWER'S ENTANGLEMENTS
Perplexing strands of tangled thoughts, Stripped to sovereign power. Delusion reigns, the soul is blank, Which is root or flower?
Anxiety, bizarre abuse, No boundry defined. Regulations useless. Stability declined.
Artful fragments, feline delights, They whisper, moan and bellow: "Reside! Survive! Devour it all!" Replete upon your pillow.
Awaken to immense relief Discarding soul's confusion. Reach out beyond your troubled "sleep," Dream power is all illusion.
Bio: Art has been my passion from the time I could clutch a crayon. I have an intense need to capture the energy, essence and connectivity - the oneness - of subject matter. This often spills over into an accompanying poem.
I'm a graduate of Michigan State University, and a former art teacher. I've worked in interior design, and am a published cartoonist and illustrator. I've shown my art in many venues. This year, I'm scheduled to exhibit my art in three different galleries in AZ and WA. I'm chairperson for St. Anthony in the Desert's Art Council, which invites visiting artists to display their work. I write an article on each artist for the local newspaper and for the church's website/newsletter.
