Artist Statement: Why is Good Friday project depicting "My God, my God! Why have you forsaken me!"
I was a bit scared to tackle this one. I started safe... by looking into commentaries only to find many intellectual discussions about fulfilling prophecies. I decided these intellectual discussions were missing the point. Jesus was a human being fully alive, not jumping through hoops to fulfill prophesies. He did not walk around checking off his "biblical bucket list". That cry was not for any purpose other than expressing deep anguish.
The central figure is intended to be Jesus in motion in that scream of anguish. In those images you might find yourself. If you have ever been that lost, those times when pain is so intense you have no words to express your feeling, the groans that only the Spirit can translate into words, maybe that is part of what was behind Jesus' words.
Bio: I have been painting only about 15 years. I just took a little painting class through my city and then took a few more classes through the community college. Eventually I found a style that works for me.
