Medium: Digital Photograph Artist statement: I shot this photograph from a ferry, returning to the little island that became my spiritual home when I left my position at the Diocese of Olympia. I loved the way the light seemed to single out the willow tree, illuminating both its brokenness and its grace. It reminded me of how I felt during some of the darkest times in my life: though darkness surrounded me, I could feel the light flowing through my veins. Somehow I knew there would always be light for the next step, even if the future beyond still seemed black and fearful. Artist bio: Diane Walker is a wife, mother, actress and photographer who formerly served as Director of Communications for the Diocese of Olympia and as an instructor at the Diocesan School of Theology in Seattle.
