What is RSS?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a
new way of distributing and sharing Web content.
A news reader can be a stand-alone program, an
add-in to your browser, or an add-in to your email
program. Once the news reader has been installed,
feeds can be setup to receive automatic
notifications from places you choose.
The reader will post a notification whenever the
Webpage with the feed has been updated. The feed
will include headlines with short summaries. There
will also be a link to the full article at the Web
site. In this way, you can keep up-to-date on the
Web pages that you care most about without having to
constantly check back to see if anything new has
been posted.
There are many news readers to choose from
(and many are free). A few examples are:
Awasu,
Pluck,
NewsGator,
and
RSSReader.
If a site offers a feed, there
will be a small icon or link with the acronym RSS or
XML. |
