Artist Statement: Winter in Nebraska often involves frigid temperatures and gray overcast skies. This season of the year paralleled a season of my life during which a divorce closely followed by the pandemic created an extended internal winter. But winter, whether seasonal or personal, also provides gifts when I respond creatively to whatever circumstances life presents on any given day. Obstacles can become blessings such as seeing the beauty presented by a frosty winter day.

Bio: Paula Dittrick is a retired journalist who moved in late December 2021 after working for three decades in Texas, mostly in Houston. She returned to her home state of Nebraska where she stays busy with family and nature, exploring contemplative photography, and guiding sandhill crane tours at Audubon’s Rowe Nature Sanctuary.
