Artist Statement: Trees usher our attention upward as their chaotic order inspires hope. They may be dressed up in spring or fall colors, working hard in summer green, or stripped bare in winter--from Southern California to up in New England, they adapt to changes in the seasons and environment. Trees invite us to LOOK UP! They also challenge us to care for creation. Though trees are adaptable to changes in weather, they increasingly suffer from climate change associated with global warming. With that mess of our own making, trees can really help us.

Bio: Richard Bellows challenges himself to look up and find beauty anywhere. He approaches his photos by picking up a camera and seeing how the world suddenly expresses itself in terms of color, line, balance, shade, and other aspects of beauty. Richard is a Third Order Franciscan and a retired priest who serves the Church Without Walls and Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in the Springfield area of Massachusetts. He loves to split wood, hike, and box against a bag where he lives with his wife Danni in Westfield on the ancestral land of the Nicmuck and Pocumtuc people.
