"Darkness Holds the Seeds of Light" is based on the medieval Book of Hours. It uses the form of wide decorative borders and the historiated initial letter, but with 21st century imagery. As the medieval artists did, I seek to represent the divine in the small details of my environment. In the gritty sprawl of Los Angeles I look for beauty in what is usually discarded or ignored, like broken glass and asphalt pavement. Within this framework is an offering of sweetness and promise, a radiant orange. The eyeball, refractor of light waves, catches it all and translates it into the meaning for the brain.
