This Mixed-Media painting (watercolor, pastel, oil
crayon) depicts Marys who once lived in the Holy Land –
a holy people in a Holy Land. Having been there twice,
this also expresses my feelings about those experiences
which have never left me. Mary is also my name, so I
feel a special connection. It is also the name of my
paternal grandmother who perished in the Armenian
Genocide of 1915, and my eldest maternal aunt who
arrived here before it all happened. So you might say,
we are the three Marys spiritually.
