Whale Watch

Artist Statement: My concept for this painting was to depict ocean waves crashing as they near the shore. The Spirit moved and something unexpected appeared. Blue whales, majestic and playful, can be seen reveling in the pure joy of being alive in the oceans of the earth.

Having been hunted for their huge quantities of baleen, blubber and meat, blue whales are endangered. Though endangered, they are not easily vanquished. Whales are symbolic of that which is not easily silenced or subdued. Great communicators, a blue whale’s song can be heard by another blue whale 500 miles away.

At this difficult and pivotal time in history we must let our voices be heard. We are called to speak our truth from the depths of our hearts with both vulnerability and power as Jesus did, bridging large distances with others. Working together, there is still hope that we can save this fragile earth.
