Ruth Tietjen Councell is an artist and illustrator, who, at various times, has specialized in drawing and painting, graphic design, children's illustration, and botanical art. A California native, she grew up in a variety of places in the United States and abroad. She studied art at the University of Redlands and at the University of California at Santa Barbara. She studied botanical illustration at the Chicago Botanic Garden and at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois.

Ruth is currently doing oil painting on a variety of subjects, both secular and religious, and is involved in forming a chapter of ECVA in the diocese of New Jersey.
