Beverly Womack

Purified

Artist Statement: The text is from Malachi of a promised purification of God's royal priesthood. (1 Peter 2:9,10) Penciled and huge is Hebrew translated "Listen," as in Listen, O Israel. As in, sit still and listen. Pay attention, wait, listen. Gold squares poise themselves on the right half of the canvas. One, a copper/zinc composite of imitation gold leaf. The middle, a blend of composite and 24K real stuff. The third, true gold leaf. The purifying begins at the bottom with exertive and painful imitations of worship mercifully burned away, until the worshipper comes forth - through suffering - as purified gold, to see, hear and feel God as He is: Brilliant, Holy, Inclusive.
