Mary Jane Miller

Get in the Boat

28"x28" - Egg tempera

Artist Statement: The icon highlights women still on a voyage as they have been for centuries. They have crossed many barriers without surrendering to the many obstructions and injustices along the way. These 18 women, named and mentioned in the bible are still undeveloped characters of strength and resiliency for a changing humanity. It is a worthy question to ask, how could such a brilliant and beautiful story of Christ omitted so many unnamed women and their amazing sacrificial suffering for the love of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Women are sailing to a new land where society will be changed with their ancient and wise perspectives.
