Margaret Amada

The Women

Artist Statement: I am an artist living in El Paso, TX, specializing in 2-dimensional artwork in pastels and oil. My subject matters usually express an interior landscape, or an actual El Paso landscape into which I've put people and animals, with an underlying spiritual theme. Many of my pieces tell stories.

Bio: I was born in 1953 in Memphis, TN, daughter of a Presbyterian minister and a Director of Christian education. My mother's specialty was in hymns, which I still sing to myself a cappella each week. My parents also enriched my life with art lessons, artbooks, and going to see as many art exhibits as we could. I started drawing in elementary school, began painting as a young adult in Galveston, Texas, in oils, and then discovered pastels, loving them because of the bright colors they gave me, just as oils provided me with bright colors.
