Living With Death
By Corinne Collymore Peters
(Oil on canvas, 36" x 48", 2006)

Living With Death intends to debunk the statement “Oh with time you’ll move on” after the loss of a Loved One. You don’t move on, but instead learn to Live with the death. In this painting, those of us still living, are the lilies with their petals. The flowers in the middle with the petals are those who have died. Depending on how recent is the death, those who have passed on either have only the stamens, for those who are newly departed, or the stumps, for those whose separations are so long ago, that they are only cherished reminiscences. We Live surrounded by their memories, and material remembrances. And as our time comes closer to answering our Call, we are now at the apex, with our newer generation, behind us, preparing to live with our deaths. The cloud in the background into the foreground is the Holy Spirit as it comes to call us Home, and help us Live with Death. Corinne Collymore Peters
