Artist Statement: When I repeat the words of consecration during the Eucharist, I proclaim the holy command “Drink this, all of you” with great fervor. These are words of love, invitation to every person. I say these words from Matthew, repeated in every Eucharistic prayer, sensing the urgency of this divine imperative. I chose my photograph of a portion of a polychrome statue, emphasizing the deep red and gold of blood and chalice and framed it boldly to bring alive the richness of the feast we are offered. Bio: In my vocation as priest and as artist, I endeavor to evoke the holy. I use visual art, writing, meditation, and other devotional practices to invite others to awaken to the mystery of love at the heart of the universe, risk sacred encounter, and cross the threshold of their heart's deepest hopes. |
