Artist Statement: Mandalas represent the cosmos symbolically. They are a microcosm of the universe and all of creation. A metaphor for unity and wholeness, the design always radiates outward from a central point sometimes referred to as the fingerprint of God.
Symbolic meanings of the butterfly include time, soul, grace, growth, elegance, expansion, expression, lightness, celebration, vulnerability, surrender, transition, and resurrection. It’s easy to see why in Christian art, Jesus is often depicted holding a butterfly, and why the butterfly is reflective of the spiritual path he has given us to follow.
A mandala is also an apt metaphor for the living Christ... His healing, reconciling energy is directed outward from his center. Imagine a world where we truly do the same.
