After the manna
Manifestation of the Quail

Artist Statement: This painting is representative of the literal old testament narrative, which includes God providing nourishment for the body but also the ungratefulness of the receivers. The painting also speaks to spiritual food, that is in Christ-- John 6:32-35. Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven."

God provides for us on all levels. He provides nourishment for our mind, body and soul. Since the veil was torn through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we have a direct means by which to pray and to give thanks. This painting is also about greed. All too often we focus our prayers only on that which effects our lives. But Jesus is bigger than that. This is a reminder to take our focus off of ourselves and serve the greater community. To share the wealth that God provides. If you notice the manna in the painting can also look like coins. We forget in our receiving to give, truly give our hearts back to God and to others. God is an extravagant giver. The manna was life sustaining enough. But after complaints, He manifested quail. Our love toward Christ should be just as extravagant. After all, He paid the price for our lives.
