Refusing to Give Up

Oil on Canvas
30" x 40"

Artist Statement: I painted this tree after observing how remarkable it is in bending with its branches touching the ground in places and in other places reaching to the sky. It has many broken branches, it is growing in a salt marsh, where the rest of the trees are further behind it in richer soil. How does it survive? I realize all of us could ask that question because so many that have been hurt by difficult and varied issues, yet they continue to live, to produce, as in this case, green leaves - Refusing to Give Up. During this pandemic, I have thought a lot about how God has called us to continue, living, doing what we can to serve Him, finding new ways to express what we see as artist. Hoping we will continue the journey set before us by God himself.

Bio: I have always been interested in art but didn’t start painting until 1995 while living in Clayton, NC where I begin taking art classes.

I started with drawing and colored pencil and moved to watercolor. I tried pastels, and acrylics, but finally settled on water-soluble oils.

I painted for over 20 years with a wonderful group of ladies, all older, who encouraged and critiqued my work until their age no longer permitted us to paint together. What a gift they all were to me.

I have exhibited in many different locations in the Clayton, Raleigh and Wilmington, NC area.

I am married, have two adult children, a son in law, and a wonderful granddaughter all who support and encourage me as an artist.

www.Elizabethdesherbinin.com is my web site for more of my artwork.
