Artist Statement: Trees are found in many of my paintings, and I love to add paths among the trees. I hope when people look at these paintings, they picture themselves along the paths considering the journey in life they are on. There are always shadows in life we deal with, but I find those shadows make us appreciate what is around us that much more. There are things in life that make us laugh, like Early Spring Dance where I believe the trees are dancing in joy. Lots of color is often found in my paintings. In the paintings of fall, do we take the time to notice the wonderful color of the leaves before they fall and are no longer there. So true of people that bring such color to our lives, take the time to notice them. In winter we notice the tree structure and the shadows they cast which in themselves are lovely. I hope as I grow older what I cast brings others closer to Christ. The paths we travel are all unique to us, but hopefully we will glean much as we observe what is around us along the way.

Bio: I have always been interested in art but didn’t start painting until 1995 while living in Clayton, NC where I begin taking art classes.

I started with drawing and colored pencil and moved to watercolor. I tried pastels, and acrylics, but finally settled on water-soluble oils.

I painted for over 20 years with a wonderful group of ladies, all older, who encouraged and critiqued my work until their age no longer permitted us to paint together. What a gift they all were to me.

I have exhibited in many different locations in the Clayton, Raleigh and Wilmington, NC area.

I am married, have two adult children, a son in law, and a wonderful granddaughter all who support and encourage me as an artist.

www.elizabethdesherbinin.com is my web site for more of my artwork.
